The role of exploration in Indonesia's National Energy Policy

Risco’s Chris Newton outlines the crucial role exploration can play in achieving Indonesia's currently unsatisfied National Energy Policy objectives of energy security and independence.  The challenges facing Indonesia are not unique - the UK's exploration crisis offers many analogues. The difference lies in the response: the UK is proactively seeking solutions, Indonesia has yet to do so. Inaction is the mother of failure - amply demonstrated by Poland's "shale fail", resultant from one of Europe's most sluggish bureaucracies.  The path to successfully achieving NEP objectives is clear, but so is the one to failure. Success and failure in this regard are distinguished by action and this begins with stimulating exploration investment.
